The Lion Monument (Löwendenkmal) in the centre of Lucerne commemorates the Swiss Guards who fell during the storming of the Tuileries Palace in Paris on 10 August 1792. It is one of the best known monuments in Switzerland, and is visited by 1.4 million tourists every year. The stone sculpture, a protected monument, is 15 minutes from the Motel Brüggli by car and 20 minutes by public transport.
